job summary:

The Senior Software Engineer is a member of a development team in one of the development units within IT Services. He or she is responsible for playing a role in the design, development, delivery and maintenance of enterprise or local applications or core reusable components. This individual is able to design enterprise-wide applications framework and has a deep understanding of the company's applications architecture, enterprise application integration and multi-party application collaboration. The incumbent is expected to understand the business practices of his or her customers within the business unit and adapt appropriate systems solutions to business problems or requirements.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities and Technical Requirements:

Understand the activities of the various functions within the applicable business unit(s) so as to provide the best solutions to system problems or requests. Design solutions that make business processes more efficient so as to satisfy the customer. Ensure that appropriate change control processes for deliverables are followed. Expert in doing technical evaluation of packaged products or new technology. Ensure that all application & integration deliverables are thoroughly tested by coordinating with business analysts, QA and architecture teams. Work closely with production operations, build and deployment teams to ensure smooth deployment of application components in all environments. Communicate effectively within a cross-functional group setting, demonstrating excellent verbal and written skills when communicating technical concepts as they relate to business problems. Participate with senior IT staff in making enterprise-wide technical and architectural decisions. Proactively identify application and architectural issues. Constantly strive to improve Matson's technical framework and best practices for technical architecture. Routinely provide technical guidance to the development teams. Take initiative in educating the team on advanced technical concepts. Estimate, design, code and test software components and framework to be used in enterprise or local applications, while adhering to standards defined in the design and development phases of the Matson SDLC. Write code that is efficient and easily maintained; develop technical documentation as defined within the SDLC. Perform on-call responsibilities for production support of critical applications as required.

 

Requirements:

5 years of prior work experience in the following:

Web applications using various technologies such as Java 2 Enterprise Edition framework, JBoss server, tomcat, JSP, Java script, HTML, XML, SQL and Oracle database. Web services and SOA architecture using AXIS or other tools

Hands on with RUP and (or) UML or similar software development methodology.

Programming languages: Java and J2EE.

Using technologies such as Struts, Spring, Hibernate, iBatis, JBoss EAP, Tomcat, iReport, PL/SQL, webservices, AJAX, Javascript.

Oracle, MySQL, and SQL Server are the databases used in our projects.
